OPTOLOGIC offers complete optical width and flatness gauging measurement systems for hot- and cold-rolling mills. They ensure a permanent non-contact quality control and optimisation of products. The modular system is designed to meet different needs. The central unit of all measuring systems are the smart high-resolution area scan cameras developed particularly for this application. The smart area scan cameras have the advantage to provide a very compute-intensive evaluation of image data carried out on site, i.e. within the camera.
The area scan cameras are positioned in a triangular measurement arrangement. The triangular arrangement between the camera and the laser ensures that each deviation of the edges and the surface of the material from the passline is detected and calculated. The knowledge of the defined camera and laser position allows calculating the results by assigning a coordinate in the Cartesian coordinate system to each edge and to each measurement point at the surface. If there are two parallel laser lines, it is possible to calculate the angle of the surface in the moving direction.
Due to the high measuring rate and synchronised operation of the cameras (if necessary) secure measurement results are obtained even under conditions of quick height change.
